Bringing a business to life from ground zero is a humongous task. It demands time effort and energy. To be persistent and stay committed to one’s own business idea is challenging, especially as every entrepreneur faces obstacles in his/her journey.
As an entrepreneur, have you struggled to give your 100 percent? Did you ever feel like losing confidence about your business?
If yes, this article is for you. So here we go
1. Enjoy the journey to achieving your dream
Every successful entrepreneur had a dream, so do you. Maybe you want to build your company into a multi million dollar business in 5 years, or you want to become the fastest growing company in your industry.
Whatever it is, the idea is to live for your dream. See each and every action of yours as a baby step to your larger goal. Define smaller milestones such as starting a new service line or business unit, introducing a new marketing channel, strengthening the workforce etc. Realize each of these accomplishments as a stepping stone to success.
When you do this, you will start to enjoy the journey, because you are associating a sense of achievement to all of your actions. Also, this will keep your motivation levels high.
2. Break the status quo
For me, the most boring thing in a job would be to come to office to do the same work everyday. It makes a job monotonous, repetitive and less challenging. All of these apply to an entrepreneur as well.
An entrepreneur wants to change the way the industry or a section of the industry works. And if you are one, you would definitely enjoy new challenges and tasks. That’s what will make your day more exciting. So, have a different perspective towards your business processes, policies and culture. Make changes wherever necessary. Create a physical environment that is different from the usual boring office setting. Fill your day with interactions with customers, employees or suppliers. Don’t hesitate to break traditional approaches.
You can also attempt to change processes after a certain period, in a way that it doesn’t affect your operations. You can use your judgement and ideas to determine what needs to be changed or retained.
3. Learn stories of successful entrepreneurs
For an entrepreneur, there is nothing better than knowing the paths successful entrepreneurs have taken. It serves multiple purposes:
- Learn from their mistakes
- Understand business strategy and planning for a budding business
- Learn innovative ways of promoting products and services
- Understand what helped to be truthful to their business
Every business domain or industry has many entrepreneurs who have made it big. You can research and read about success stories in your industry. Here I will mention some relevant resources where you can find some exciting stories:

4. Read inspirational biographies
Entrepreneurs’ success stories will inspire you and provide more focus and direction to your thoughts. But sometimes you need more. People who can influence and inspire others have a few things in common, and a few things that made them stand out in the crowd. Biographies and autobiographies of such people are a good source of motivation for entrepreneurs.
Following are a few inspirational biographies you should read:
- Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time by Howard Schultz
- Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
- Idea Man: A Memoir by the Co-Founder of Microsoft by Paul Allen
- One Click: Jeff Bezos and the Rise of Amazon.com y Richard L. Brandt
Don’t just read them like a story. See what you can takeaway from their success as well as failures, how they overcame roadblocks in their professional and personal life, the sacrifices they had to make etc.
5. Talk about your business
Don’t be surprised when I bring this up here. One of the key driving factors for an entrepreneur is the pride of having his/her own business, that could become tomorrow’s Google or Amazon.
And talking proudly about how you built your small empire grounds up will instill more confidence in you. Further, this will help you get feedback from your peers and family.
When I say talk, it need not be necessarily face to face interactions. You could interact with people through social media and online platforms. Connect with other entrepreneurs like you through forums or communities. If you have an inspirational story, share that with them. This will help you indirectly make a name for your brand as well.
Those are my 5 easy ways to stay committed to your business. What’s your favorite? Leave a comment. And do give them a try, and you will see them helping you gradually.
